WEAR-ABOUTS project, awarded by WORTH Partnership Project (EU COSME Programme) will be starting soon. It is time for the team to start to plan forthcoming activities and a first travel in Finland, Estonia and Sweden for June 2019.
One of the first steps for this travel preparation, will be to select the places where we will go and people we will meet in each country.
WEAR-ABOUTS addresses children and teenagers, from 3 to 16 years old. It is therefore natural that we search towards family activities proposed in these countries.
It is very interesting to have an overview on the family activities and how they are proposed/displayed, for foreign future travelers preparing their travel.
We’ve had a look on the Finnish tourism board website, visitfinland.com that propose a Family entry through: Homepage/What to do?/Families, nicely illustrated by a Moomin character, very famous books and cartoons for children, created by the Finnish illustrator Tove Jansson.

The dedicated page offers a very wide choice of activities, with a possibility to activate filters to narrow the search, for example, the “sustainable” filter… could be very interesting for our project.
It seems, anyhow, that we can’t select activities by age, which could have been very useful considering that young children and teenagers are not really keen on the same type of activities.
For a search in the Helsinki area, we have tried to link the discovery of the Design attractions and district and the family offers, but we didn’t really find a way to cross these activities.

As Design is a core aspect of our project and we do believe that it is highly interesting for children, teenagers and families, we’ll search for further possibilities for this topic on visitfinland.com and other resources, in a next post.
In future posts we will also address the topic of illustration for children in the countries that we will visit.
Stay tuned!
